I made pie
I got froggy today and made a Chocolate Meringue Pie, crust and all, from scratch. It was the first time I've tried to make a crust from scratch. It came out a little tough, but overall the pie rocks. I made an awesome meringue.

It's a work of art )

I got the recipes from www.texascooking.com.

Trick or Treat!
Despite the occasional feeling of an ice pick stabbing my left temple we went to the zoo today. I am so glad we did. It was the most fun! I got to go trick or treating, and totally cleaned up. :D If I'd known they were still doing Boo at the Zoo I'd have dressed up. Least I know for next year. We saw so many cute little critters, faeries, princesses, and other assorted costumes. Darth Vadar and Yoda were on a collision course. :) There were many giraffes. My favourites were a little Donald Duck (the tail!) and a Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Oh, she was lovely.

We got to see the wolves, well two of the them. I don't know how big the pack is. They looked like snow banks tucked up next to the fence. If one of them hadn't scratched his nose we wouldn't have known. They were gorgeous. The snow leopards were feeling frisky. They'd separated the cubs from the 'rents and no one but the dad was happy about it. :)

I was a goob and left the camera in the car, but I took a couple of pictures with my phone, one of a cheetah and a couple of the Big Horn Sheep ram. EEE!! It's not as cool as seeing them in the wild like we did a couple of weeks ago, but it was still really neat.

Here kitty, kitty )

Kinda majestic looking, huh? )

We finished off the evening at Outback for dinner. The manager bought our entree and dessert. They overcooked our steak and he offered us a free dessert. When we got the bill, he'd also taken off the entree. Just one more reason why they're one of our favourite chains.

My head has eased off, finally. It's gonna be a quiet night, I think. Thomas has to get up at 4ohgodo'clock in the morning, so yeah. Quiet night.

Migraine=2; Danielle=0
My head still hurts. Damn it. Not even my morning yoga and a good breakfast has helped. :(

On the other hand, it's been nice getting up and doing Sun Salutations the last few days. I do feel energized afterwords. It seems to be helping Thomas as well, so that's very good. Just wish it'd help my head.

I have discovered the secret to perfectly crisp bacon...bake it. ::nods:: That's right. Preheat the oven to 400, set the slices on a cooling rack set over a cookie sheet lined with foil (for easy clean up) and bake for 20 to 30 minutes, turning halfway through. It comes out perfect. Yay!

We are apparently in the market for a new water heater. :( Ours doesn't like it when one person fills the sink to do dishes while the other tries to take a shower. The person taking a shower gets cold pretty quick. Not fun.

No Rocky Horror for us tonight. I've got a migraine that doesn't want to play nice and go away. >( I don't think it would be in my best interest to do the Time Warp. I promise I will eventually get a pic up of me and my corset.

In honor of Halloween I managed to talk Thomas into watching Hide with me. It's not a great movie, or even really a good movie, but it does have some outstanding performances from Christian Kane and Rachel Miner. They really do rock their roles.

I hope everyone who celebrates has a wonderful Samhain and a super fun and safe Halloween!

We have plans to go to a midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show tonight. Whee! Y'all will get to see my corset tomorrow, but for now...

Woo hoo! Heat Wave! and other assorted ramblings
Relatively speaking anyway. It appears the snow daze is over for the moment. It's supposed to be in the mid-40s today and around 50 tomorrow. :D Unfortunately, the front of our house faces North, so it'll be awhile before we see the ground again, like maybe...April. The concrete is clear though. That's very good. Cross your fingers that there won't be too much ice over the next few days. Thomas mentioned us going to the zoo tomorrow to see how the animals like playing in the snow. Could be fun. Thank god for my long coat.

It really sucks that we don't get trick or treaters in our enclave. I adore seeing the lit'lins in their costumes. I also wanted to dress up this year, but there's just no point. I still might do a little something tomorrow. I've got my pleather & velvet corset. Maybe I can cobble together an outfit and do something with my hair and make up. ::shrugs:: We'll see. There might be pic if I do, but don't hold your breath. :)

I finally found product for my hair that actually works. Yay! TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock! Leave-in Moisture is wonderful. Takes the frizzies right out. This is one of the most difficult hairstyles I've ever had. My hair actually feels damaged. And yes, I know that I did damage my hair with the perm, but I've never had this problem before. My hair seems to thrive on stuff like this, or it used to anyway. Love my new hair colour though: Clairol Nice'n'Easy 110, Natural Light Auburn. First time I've ever used it. Think it might be a keeper. I might go in for a trim this weekend. Maybe that would help.

And yes, I'm aware that I'm rambling. Think I might be going a little stir crazy.

I think I need to put in Life of the Party so I can listen to Lorne sing Don't Leave Me This Way. I got a 4-disc set from the library just so I could have the original by Thelma Houston, but I really like Andy's version. I pulled off quite a few songs from the set so now I don't feel like such a dork for getting it just for one song

More cold stuff...brrrr
About 9:30 last night I heard noises outside and went to investigate. There was a crew of about 6 guys shoveling our driveway. They were awesome. Granted, I think they're under contract, but still we were very happy to have the initial clearing done by others. Especially since there was more than a foot of snow on the driveway. When we checked later we discovered they'd even cleared our front porch and the walkway to the garage. Like I said, awesome. We have the longest drive in the complex, so this isn't an easy task.

Unfortunately, there was another foot on the ground when we got up this morning. :( Thomas is home again today. He went out this morning to clear a path so he could set the trash out, though I'll be surprised if garbage pick up actually runs today. He also took pictures.

Idn't it purty? )

At least we didn't get 4ft in 6 hours. This is almost manageable.

I need to load my Winter icon. I think it's time.

Writer's Block, and other stuff...like food
Writer's Block

Do you tend to forgive and forget or hold grudges? What is the longest you've ever stayed angry with someone? Is there anything the other person could say or do to win back your friendship and trust?

I tend to hold a grudge. It takes a lot to piss me off, but once someone does they aren't likely to get off my shit list any time soon. Seventeen years. It wasn't even anger towards the end, just 'I don't care' anymore. I didn't have feelings for them one way or another after a few years. Show me you're sorry and mean it, and by God, don't screw up again or you're out of my life for good.

And now on to the non-emo stuff that shows I'm not really a vindictive bitca all the time. :)

Nana's memorial service was today. Mom said it was a lovely celebration of life. I was very glad to hear that it all went well. Now Nana and Papa are back together again.

I cooked today. Kinda. More like baked...roasted...I used the oven, but there was a lot of peeling and chopping before then. :) I did roasted vegetables. Fingerling potatoes, pearl onions, and baby carrots tossed with olive oil, salt, black pepper, white pepper, and Bragg's Seasoning. I also baked Stuffed Portabello Mushroom Caps. I stuffed them with a mixture of Feta, Goat Cheese, Garlic, Olive Oil, salt, pepper, parsley, thyme, and bread crumbs. Verra yum. If anyone wants the recipes, let me know and I'll write 'em up.

I'm watching the first season of Stargate Atlantis. I'm still not sure if I'm going to like it or not, but I've only gotten through the first disc. I'll watch it to its conclusion and then we'll see if I get the second season from the library or not.

There was something else that I was going to share, but what that was has escaped me...huh. If I think of it later I'll share.

I hope y'all are doing well. {{{hugs my f-list}}}
