Pretty good day
Our yoga workouts went well this morning. My hair and makeup cooperated when I got ready for the day. I love my new shirt. I got my new Skechers and wore them to the party. Boy am I glad I did. :) I was on my feet a lot and my new shoes are very comfy. My goodness but Mr. G lives way the hell out in the boondocks, but it was a pretty drive. There were deer in the front yard when we arrived. They have a lovely home. It was a nice get-together and my cookies went over a treat. Everyone commented on them and many requests were made for more. :) I also got compliments on my hair and skin. Not bad for a couple hours mingling.

We stopped by Whole Paycheck on the way home and made pretty good inroads in my Thanksgiving Day shopping list. I've only got a few things left to get, which I will do tomorrow. It would have been a whole lot cheaper-like whoa- to just order Mimi's, but I'm looking forward to doing this. I plan to make everything but the turkey ahead of time so all I'll have to do is heat the side dishes through. I think this is going to be a delish day, and by spreading out the prep over the week I won't be overwhelmed on Thursday.

I hope y'all had a good day. {{{squishes f-list}}}

Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies- Revised
It was brought to my attention that I neglected to include a link to the cookie recipe, so I am providing the original and my newly revised recipe here.

\o/!
The first batch of cookies for the season is a resounding success! Woo Hoo!!!! I even tweaked the recipe a little. I reduced the amount of graham cracker crumbs by half a cup and added a half a cup of ground flax seed in its place. They came out very tasty. :D I got five and half dozen out of this one batch. That should do nicely tomorrow as long as I can keep Thomas from eating a plateful tonight. *g* He can have one to sample just like me. ::snorts:: Yeah, we'll see how well that works.

I have a hankering for a shrimp salad, but I don't have a good recipe. Anyone have one that they like? I like the creamy type, not the vinaigrette. I wish I had the recipe for the Shrimp Salad Stuffed Tomato from Sea Island Shrimp House. That's some tasty vittles there.

Hmmm....
I either have too many clothes or not enough storage space. I'm going to go with not enough storage space. *g*

I did a massive culling when I returned from Texas and I did another one today. I still don't have room for all my clothes. :( I wouldn't mind folding the t-shirts I wear for working out and bumming around in, as that would free up a bunch of room in my closet, but I don't have anywhere to put them. My dresser drawers are reserved for pants and unmentionables and such. I'd like to be able to switch out summer for winter wear, but since I layer in the winter that won't really work. That and I don't have an extra closet to do that. Thomas has taken over the office closet for his work clothes and the guest room closet is full of boxes and doesn't have a clothing rod up at the moment (we took it down when the ceiling caved in and haven't put it up again).

I still need to go through my shoes. I have way too many pair that I just don't or won't wear.

I've been trying really hard to get away from the super casual look that I usually have going on, hence my new purchases, but it's hard. I mean, come on, who do I really need to impress? I'm home alone all day with the cat and she could care less what I wear. Thomas isn't fussy either.

More shopping and thoughts on food
Thomas took me shopping again. :) It was a pretty quick trip, but I found two more shirts and a neat pair of gray and black argyle tights. He wants me to wear the dark green shirt I got last night to the open house we're attending at his boss' home on Saturday.

Speaking of said Open House, I will be baking tomorrow for the event. I'm going to make a batch of Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies. It's weird, it's our favourite cookie recipe, but I only seem to make them from November to January. Maybe that's why we like 'em so much, they're special occasion/Holiday cookies. There's no good reason for me not to make them throughout the year. I just...don't. I should, cos god knows they're better than just about any store bought cookie. Must ponder this.

I am making Thanksgiving Dinner for Thomas and myself this year. I don't usually bother if it's just the two of us- we call in to Mimi's Cafe for their spread, which is quite good- but I'm in the mood. I've got the menu planned, just need to do the shopping.

Thanksgiving '09 Menu...whatcha think? )

I am looking forward to this. It's going to be time consuming, but I think it'll be worth it.

I need to wax enthusiastic
Y'all know I'm not much one for sports, but I am tickled plaid about this news. The new Head Coach for the University of Memphis Basketball team is former UofA Wildcat Josh Pastner. He played from the bench in his time at the UofA and served as an assistant coach to Lute Olsen for several years. I saw him play in his final game and he scored. At 31, he's one of the youngest head coaches in the NCAA. This is so cool. :D Memphis is currently playing Kansas and are holding their own. There is much defense in this game. Go Tigers!

Chicago, Chicago, La-la-la
Thomas has a conference to attend in Chicago in March. I made our hotel reservations last night. We'll be staying at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. As much as I'm looking forward to the trip, because I really do love the city, the timing sucks balls. We arrive the same weekend as the Leverage ConCon in Portland, OR. ::whines:: I wanted to go. ::/whines:: Oh well. On the upside is that I will hopefully be able to hook up with [info]snogged while I'm in town. That would be the bee's knees. :D If there's anyone else in the area that might want to get together, let me know. I'd be thrilled. :)

I checked out Broadway in Chicago and Billy Elliot is playing while we'll be there, so that's a possibility. I'm not sure what all else is playing then.

My hubby took my shopping yesterday evening. We went to Kohls, because I had a gift card. Came home with two shirts for me, two tie-tacks for him, and the charity Christmas CD for the both of us.

We didn't make it to REI before they closed, but that's okay. Our stuff isn't going anywhere. I tried to bring the store up on our GPS so I could call to see what time they closed, but it pulled anything with REI in the name and wouldn't pull up the location I needed. Weird.

We did Mexican for dinner. It was yum. I had Thomas take a pic of me. It's not the best highlight for my new 'do, but you can see how much healthier my hair looks.

bouncy curls are bouncy )

I picked it out last night and the layers really do make a difference. My head didn't explode like it did before the cut. :)

I started season 2 of Stargate: Atlantis today. I'm liking it more than season 1. I've laughed out loud quite a few times so far. Jason Momoa is a dream. Damn, but he's got pretty eyes and a great voice.

I set off the smoke alarm this morning in the middle of my yoga workout. Apparently the flue was already open when I started the fire and I closed it when I pushed the handle back. I will not make this mistake again. But it is good to know that our alarm works.

Back to the snow daze
We've got the white stuff again. There was a bout six inches on the driveway and a foot or so on the grass. We were out early this morning to shovel the drive clear. Between the two of us it only took an hour or so. It should stop snowing by tomorrow, but the week is going to be fairly chilly. The good thing, though, is that we're finally using our fireplace. ::makes sounds of geeker joy:: Seriously, I'm going to occasionally squee off and on for the rest of the winter. I love having a fire burning in the living room. It's awesomesauce. Only took us five years. :) Duraflame is my friend.

I spent some time this weekend gathering up all of our spare change and putting it into our counting money jar. It keeps a running tab of how much you put into it. Only problem is that it sometimes reads pennies as dimes and occasionally a nickel as a penny. Very strange. We had a lot of loose change. I finished up rolling the coins this morning. I've got enough for a new tattoo, although I probably won't get to use it for that.

I need to go shoe shopping. No, really. I don't have any black shoes except for my ankle boots and they have proven to be uncomfortable to wear for more than a couple of hours. I used to be able to wear them all day. :( I found a pair of Sketcher sneakers at the BX that I like, so I might go back and pick them up. I really want new boots. I found a pair at Penny's that I like, but they require me to wear skinny jeans and I don't know that that would be the best look for me. I'll have to try some on to see if it'll work. And yes, I'm aware that it's silly to buy clothes just to go with a pair of shoes. I never said I was logical. :)

:)
I have a new wedding ring. It's just like the one Millie made disappear. Oh, how I have missed it. It feels very good on my hand. :)

Annabelle is fixed. It cost a bit more than we were anticipating, but we were able to return our rental today instead of next week, so that saved us quite a bit of money.

I forgot to mention it yesterday, but I got a hairscut. The stylist put some layers in and did a deep conditioning treatment, so my curls are a bit more bouncy. Pictures will be posted in a couple of days. I have also been told that Herbal Essences is only good for washing a car, so I picked up some professional products to try. Hopefully, my curls and colour will be healthier from now on. I also need to plan to do a deep conditioning treatment once a month. I plan to do a homemade masque next time. I have a couple of different recipes to try.

When the fit hits the shan, it hits it at a very high velocity
Firstly, Happy Veterans Day to all those who serve/served and their families. Thank you for your service to this country. I honor you.

In other, not so great news, Annabelle decided she didn't want to have the driver's side window up anymore, so she let it drop and wouldn't let us roll it up again. Not much of a problem for today or tomorrow, as the weather is lovely, but we're expecting rain and snow starting Friday. So she's in the shop and we've got a rental.

We bought a new water heater today. We would have liked to have it professionally installed, but the quotes we got from Sears and Home Depot were asinine. They wanted almost as much to install as the damn thing cost. So we'll do it ourselves this weekend. The box decided to slip its moorings on the way down to the basement and Thomas kind of skidded down the last few stairs and slammed into the door jamb. The dolly hit his leg pretty hard. He's already got a good-sized bruise and knot on his left shin. :(

Today was very expensive.

On the plus side, I discovered LED Christmas Lights. I want the blue ones. And we picked up Up! and The Ugly Truth at Best Buy. Unfortunately, I have no desire to watch either of them tonight. I just want peace and quiet.

I hope y'all have had a nice day. :)
